Just last night, a friend of mine Jill Schiefelbein posted a simple question online…
“The last time I gave a presentation I felt ______________?”
Perfect timing that it was, I had just got back from a presentation for the Asian Pacific American Chamber Of Commerce in Portland and I had the perfect answer.
I was jazzed after that presentation and had a great time. I usually do when I do a workshop or presentation.
In fact, I thought about it for a second and realized that I usually feel the most alive when I’m speaking or training for a group of people. Everything from chamber groups to my own full day workshops, to speaking for youth groups.
I just love to present. In fact just last week, I was at a chamber meeting and the room had a big stage that no one even used during the meeting. It was hard for me not to jump up there.
I love the energy I can create from getting in front of a group of people. Making them laugh, making them think and of course teaching them stuff that helps them in their success.
It’s how I add value to the world. If I can influence someone to get just one step closer to the success they dream of, then I’m a happy camper.
Every once in a while it take a single simple question like Jill’s to remind me of why I do what I do. It reminds me of what really excites me and why I get up in the morning.
What is it that energizes you?
What’s that drive that gets you up in the morning and reminds you that you’re alive?
I personally think that is the biggest thing we need to keep in mind each and every day that helps us get through the hard times, keep us on track and helps us know what our mission on this earth is all about.
That could be being a great parent to you kids. It could be to help entrepreneurs like I do. What it is doesn’t matter as much and knowing what it is and knowing that it IS the single thing that energizes you.
I talk to dozens of people all the time and one thing I can always see is if someone has that energizing “thing” whatever that is.
They have a sparkle in their eye. They are more animated. They have a contagious drive to them. I like to call it “Infectious Drive”.
It is infectious and brings people to them. People love to be around them and their energy helps energize those around them as well.
Do you know what that single thing is that energizes you?
Stop and think about it for a bit. Try taking out a journal and writing it down. Take note of the language you use and how you feel as you’re writing it out. If you’re on the right track, you’ll feel good. You’ll become more aware of everything around you and you’ll get a smile on your face.
Once you can figure out what that one thing is that energizes you, you’ll feel like Ellwood Blues and you’ll be “On a mission from God”.
